*Charlize Theron may command the screen with high-octane performances and hold one of Hollywood’s most coveted awards, but her kids are thoroughly unimpressed.
“The Old Guard 2″ star stopped by “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Thursday and revealed her two daughters, Jackson, 12, and August, 9, aren’t the least bit swayed by her fame, or even her Oscar.
“My children have zero respect for me,” Theron said bluntly, TooFab reports. “It’s just unbelievable. I feel like I’m pretty humble, but every once in a while I’m like, ‘There’s a f–king Oscar right there.’ They are so not impressed with me.”
She recalled a recent moment that perfectly summed up the vibe in her household. After picking up her youngest from dance class, they drove past a new “Mission: Impossible” poster featuring Tom Cruise dramatically hanging from a plane.

“My child just looked at this poster of Tom Cruise and went, ‘It’s weird, he looks so much cooler than you did when you were hanging off the helicopter,’” Theron said, laughing. “I was just like, ‘I hung off the helicopter, [can I have] some credit?!’”
In her latest film, Theron pulled off a high-stakes stunt sequence involving real helicopters and precision choreography. “We took like two weeks to shoot this sequence… shooting 99% of it on a real helicopter as it’s trying to shake me off like a rag doll,” she explained.
But despite risking life and limb, she still couldn’t score any cool points at home. Even her Oscar doesn’t seem to carry weight with her kids. When host Jimmy Kimmel suggested she give the statuette to the child who supports her the most, Theron joked, “They don’t want the Oscar.” Kimmel replied, “Oh, they’ll want that Oscar.”
Theron’s relationship with her daughters extends far beyond movie critiques. In a 2021 interview with Essence, she spoke candidly about raising two Black daughters (both of whom are allegedly transgender) and how she’s leaned on a “village” of Black women for guidance.
“I am so grateful to the incredible village of strong Black women in my life who I can pick up a phone to [call], or come over to my house and they’ll tell me: ‘You need to stop doing this,’ or ‘These baby hairs are breaking off. What are you doing?’” Theron told the magazine. “So they put me in my place, and because of them I feel this great confidence in raising my girls.”
“The Old Guard 2,” which also stars Uma Thurman, hits Netflix on July 2.
