*Sony Pictures is moving ahead with early development on a new entry in the “21 Jump Street film series, more than a decade after the franchise’s last release.
According to Deadline, the project is being referred to as “24 Jump Street,” signaling a continuation of the rebooted comedy universe that began in 2012. Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Ice Cube are in talks to step back into their original roles. Their possible return marks a reunion of the core cast that helped turn the television series into a box office hit. The two earlier films collectively generated more than $500 million worldwide.
Rodney Rothman is set to direct and co-write the script for the latest film with Hill and Meghan Malloy.

The original Fox series ran from 1987 to 1991 and launched Johnny Depp’s career. It followed a team of young-looking undercover officers who embedded themselves in schools, gangs, and teenage environments to crack cases. The film trades the series’ dramatic tone for straight-up comedy.
Tatum previously expressed hesitation about continuing the film franchise, telling USA Today, “The big running joke of the second movie is this is just going to be bigger … than the first time. I don’t know if that joke works three times, so we’ll see.”
With the new installment now in early development, the franchise appears to be testing how its long-running comedic formula could evolve after a lengthy hiatus.
