*A social media post from the official White House account has ignited controversy after featuring Usher’s sensual 2010 hit “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)” over footage of Donald Trump at the NATO Summit in The Hague.
The June 26 video montage, showing the president stepping out of a motorcade and greeting global leaders, was set to the track’s provocative chorus: “Daddy’s home… hey, hey, hey, Daddy.”
The music choice took on a more eyebrow-raising tone in light of an earlier exchange between Trump and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. During a bilateral meeting, Rutte referred to Trump as “Daddy” while joking about the president’s aggressive approach to brokering peace between Israel and Iran.
“Daddy has to sometimes use strong language to get them to stop,” Rutte said, referencing Trump’s comparison of the conflict to “two kids in a schoolyard.”
The comment drew laughter, and Trump later recounted it, saying, “He did it very affectionately. ‘Daddy, you’re my Daddy.’”

Though both leaders played the moment off lightly, the video’s pairing with Usher’s hit track stirred a different reaction online. Social media erupted with confusion and disbelief. “Usher needs to sue,” one fan posted, per the Rickey Smiley Morning Show. “This ain’t what he made that song for.” Others labeled the video “unhinged,” “wildly inappropriate,” and “peak internet.”
As of now, Usher’s camp has not made any public statements regarding the White House’s use of the song.
Meanwhile, the summit itself saw NATO allies agree to a major increase in defense spending, with member nations pledging to dedicate five percent of their GDP to defense and security by 2035. Trump, reflecting on the decision, remarked: “They said, ‘You did it, sir. You did it.’ Well, I don’t know if I did it, but I think I did.”
Despite the weighty policy developments, much of the internet remains focused on the viral video and whether Usher will respond with a lawsuit.
