*A Wingstop employee in Memphis, Tennessee, is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly dousing two customers with hot cooking oil during a dispute inside the restaurant.
Johnisa Herring, 25, has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with the incident, according to a complaint affidavit signed Monday, which also authorized her arrest, Law & Crime reports.
The confrontation unfolded on July 22 at the Wingstop on Winchester Road. Two women had entered the restaurant to pick up food when an argument erupted between them and Herring. The affidavit states that as the disagreement escalated, “Herring went to the kitchen, grabbed a bowl and filled it with hot cooking oil.” She then “threw the bowl of hot oil” onto the two patrons.
One woman was struck in the face and upper torso and required immediate hospitalization. According to police, she sustained second-degree burns to 18.5% of her body. The second woman suffered burns to her right shoulder.

The customer with more serious injuries later identified Herring as the individual who threw the oil, the affidavit says. Details about what triggered the argument have not been disclosed.
After her arrest, Johnisa Herring was detained at Shelby County Jail with a $7,500 bond. Her initial court appearance was set for Friday, but by Saturday, she was no longer listed in the jail’s records, suggesting her release. She is due back in court on August 25, 2025.
