*A devastating shooting in Lillington, North Carolina, left a family shattered when a 15-year-old allegedly killed his aunt, uncle, and uncle’s mother on August 12.
As PEOPLE reports, the suspect, now in custody, faces two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of assault with a deadly weapon, with authorities expecting an additional murder charge after the third victim’s death. The tragedy unfolded during a celebration of Sabrina Richards’ 54th birthday.
The victims, identified as Danny Richards, 57, his wife Sabrina, 54, and his mother Clara, 74, were found with gunshot wounds after a call from a 10-year-old nephew. Danny and Sabrina were pronounced dead at the scene, while Clara, shot in the abdomen, succumbed to her injuries hours later at Womack Army Medical Center. The 10-year-old was unharmed, but the suspect and the family’s truck were missing, prompting a manhunt.
Authorities located the truck later that night near NC Highway 87 and Nursery Road and apprehended the teen in nearby woods three hours later. Maj. Aaron Meredith of the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office told The Daily Record the charges would likely be updated following Clara’s death. The suspect’s identity remains undisclosed due to his age.
Danny and Sabrina, both U.S. Army veterans, were beloved in their Fayetteville community. “Amazing is a small smidgen of what describes who they are,” said friend Emery Carter, who noted their efforts to provide the suspect a better life. “He was trying to give him a better place to stay and instill wisdom and discipline in him.”

Carter, a former Army colleague, described the couple’s selflessness, saying, “He literally takes clothes out of his home to give to the homeless.”
Neighbor Donald Greaux echoed this, calling Danny “a very, very nice guy” who loved his family.
Another colleague told ABC11 they were “the definition of selfless service,” highlighting their lasting impact on their community.
