*Season 17 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” has kicked off with 14 fierce queens competing for the crown of America’s Next Drag Superstar and a $200,000 cash prize.
We discussed the new season with four standout contestants—Lana Ja’Rae, Sam Star, Arrietty, Lana Ja’Rae, and Acacia Forgot—to get the inside scoop on what they’re bringing to the stage this season.
“… this season for the first time, I feel we have like drag race fans who are actually like on the show,” said Lana. “So it’s like, we know what the fans are going to want to see because we have been in their positions before. It’s like the best drag race season ever!”
Sam Star added, “I think all of us in the competition this season were sort of brought up watching the show. So hopefully the audience will be able to see that if this dream can happen for us, it could happen for them.”
And of course, every drag queen competition has to have a drama queen!

“We’re drag artists and we’re going to clash,” Arrietty said. “I clash with everyone mostly for fun because I like to have fun. My favorite thing in life is to like get under people’s skin and annoy them because it makes me happy.”
