*After the first season captivated both audiences and critics, BET+ has officially greenlit a second season of “Diarra from Detroit.” The critically acclaimed dramedy, created by, executive produced by, and starring Diarra Kilpatrick, will see Bryan Terrell Clark, DomiNque Perry, and Jon Chaffin return as series regulars alongside Kilpatrick.
“Following a breakout first season that quickly became a favorite among both fans and critics, BET Studios is excited to bring DIARRA FROM DETROIT back to BET+ for season two,” said Aisha Summers Burke, Executive Vice-President and General Manager, BET Studios, per the news release. “Diarra’s voice is bold, original, and unapologetically real—exactly the kind of storytelling that resonates deeply with our audience. This next chapter raises the stakes while keeping the same sharp wit and heart that made the series a standout.”
“Diarra from Detroit” made waves following its March 2024 premiere, earning a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and securing a spot on several “Best of 2024” lists, including those from Deadline, Rolling Stone, and Variety, the release states. Rolling Stone hailed the show as “one hell of an entertaining cross-hybrid series” and “among the year’s most pleasant TV surprises,” while Variety called it “refreshing, captivating, and unapologetically Black.” The Hollywood Reporter praised it as “a sparkling showcase for creator-star Diarra Kilpatrick.”
The series’ momentum carried into 2025, earning nominations for two Film Independent Spirit Awards, the NAACP Image Awards, and the GLAAD Media Awards. Kilpatrick also received a Gracie Award for Actress in a Breakthrough Role (Drama). During its linear run on BET, “Diarra from Detroit” ranked as the No. 1 new cable series among Black viewers year-to-date and performed strongly in key demographics, trailing only behind Tyler Perry’s “Sistas” among scripted cable programming for Black audiences.*
“We’re excited to be back and grateful for the opportunity to take viewers on another very wild, very Detroit adventure,” said Kilpatrick.

“It has been incredible watching fans and critics embrace this show in the way that they have and we’re so excited to be back for more,” added executive producer Kenya Barris. “Last season proved just how wildly talented Diarra Kilpatrick is and I, for one, can’t wait for everyone to see what her and the team have in store this time around.”
The first season of “Diarra from Detroit” followed a divorcing schoolteacher who refuses to believe she’s been ghosted by her rebound Tinder date, leading her into a decades-old mystery deeply entangled in the Detroit underworld. Along the way, she assembles a motley crew of coworkers, friends, and lovers to unravel the case while navigating personal danger and buried secrets.
Produced by BET Studios and Khalabo Ink Society, “Diarra from Detroit” is executive produced by Kilpatrick, Barris, and Miles Orion Feldsott. The premiere date for the second season has not yet been announced.
