A Texas man, Xavier Davis, 32, faces the death penalty after pleading guilty to the savage murders of a Houston couple and their young daughter.
On June 30, 2021, Davis fatally shot Gregory Carhee, 35, Donyavia Lagway, 29, and their 6-year-old daughter, Harmony Carhee, according to PEOPLE. The Houston Police Department reports that Davis forced entry into the family’s apartment, shooting the couple before fatally shooting Harmony in the head. The couple’s 10-year-old daughter, also shot, survived by playing dead until Davis fled.
After the attack, the surviving daughter contacted relatives while shielding her unharmed baby brother—the only child Davis spared. The family’s 8-year-old son was not home during the incident. Tragically, Lagway was pregnant with her fifth child at the time of her death.
Davis faces three counts of capital murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Already in custody for an unrelated case at the time of his arrest, Davis was later linked to his childhood friend, Alexus Williams, arrested in March 2022. Authorities allege Williams, who had been in a relationship with Lagway, orchestrated the killings, enticing Davis with the promise of robbery in exchange for carrying out the murders.
“Alexus Williams, had a prior dating relationship with one of the victims, Ms. Lagway, and they had broken up shortly before the shootings,” police alleged at the time of her arrest in a news release. “Investigators learned Williams arranged the robbery and suspect Davis was the shooter. Williams and Davis had been friends since they were children.”
