*In my favorite class of vehicles, I had the chance to take the 2025 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Turbo for a spin.
After previously enjoying the CX-50 on a joyride, it’s difficult to compare the two directly.
The CX-5 leans toward practicality, offering everything you need for day-to-day driving without unnecessary bells and whistles.
It’s a reliable, comfortable daily driver that instills confidence in its users.

Check out this walk around video of the 2025 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Turbo:
Design & Features: Staying true to the line’s signature aesthetic, the Mazda CX-5 maintains a sleek and uniform design—featuring smooth edges, blackout wheels, and the striking beehive grille. The black accents around the body create a defined outline that enhances its visual appeal.
The interior reflects Mazda’s dedication to understated elegance. In the model I drove, the seats brought back a touch of ’90s nostalgia (in the best way possible). Surrounded by leather with fabric inserts at the center, the seats offered an extra layer of comfort and breathability for both the driver and passengers.
The cockpit is equipped with all the essentials, including the signature rotary control for the infotainment screen. The gear shift, reminiscent of a ‘90s stick shift, is another nod to classic automotive design that I appreciated.
However, not everything hit the mark. I wasn’t particularly impressed with the wireless charger or the infotainment screen’s size and positioning. The wireless charger, angled awkwardly, failed to securely hold my iPhone 14 Pro during the drive—it repeatedly slid into the storage compartment below. The 10.25-inch infotainment screen, while functional, felt oddly placed and disrupted the otherwise smooth eyeline of the dashboard, reminiscent of older CX models.

Technology: Mazda continues to improve on technology, and I’m grateful for the seamless Bluetooth connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The CX-5 also comes equipped with i-Activsense safety technology, ensuring a smooth and safe driving experience. Beyond these features, the technology didn’t stand out as particularly innovative compared to other vehicles in its class.
The Drive: The drive itself was smooth, with the CX-5 handling the road effortlessly. While the transition between sport and normal driving modes was noticeable, the difference in momentum buildup wasn’t as significant as I had hoped. In sport mode, the vehicle offered a slight boost, particularly when changing lanes, but I found myself wanting more power overall.
That said, the ride was consistently pleasant and efficient. With a fuel economy rating of 28 mpg, I appreciated how conservatively it consumed gas during my time behind the wheel.
Overall, the 2025 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Turbo is a solid, practical choice for daily driving. It offers comfort, reliability, and just enough style to make the everyday commute a little more enjoyable.
