*Mohamedamin Abdirisek Ibrahim, a Somali refugee, is facing murder charges after strangling to death his pregnant Swedish girlfriend in an honor killing.
The prosecutor claims that the motive for the atrocious deed was rooted in fears of dishonoring his conservative Muslim family., News18 reports.
Ibrahim reportedly strangled to death Saga Forsgren Elneborg with a lamp cord. According to reports, he was too ashamed to introduce her, a white woman, to his Muslim family, as they would disapprove of the interracial relationship.
Prosecutors claim Ibrahim was raised in a household where dating a “white” woman was frowned upon. He allegedly concealed his two-year relationship with Saga due to his family’s disapproval.
Elneborg, 20, was found dead at her home in the Swedish city of Örebro on April 28, 2023. She was seven months pregnant, and the unborn child died in her womb.

The accused was not charged over the death of their unborn son.
Prosecutors uncovered text messages where the suspect reportedly advised Saga to undergo an abortion.
“[Saga’s boyfriend] has killed Saga Forsgren Elneborg by suffocating and strangling her by means of pressure on her neck with an impact on the trachea and the blood supply to the head,” said prosecutor Elisabeth Anderson, according to The Sun and Aftonbladet, per News18.
“The murder took place in an honour context because the man wanted to preserve or restore his and his family’s honour by killing the woman who was carrying his child,” she added.
Ibrahim has denied any wrongdoing despite DNA evidence linking him to the crime. The trial is scheduled for April 10.
