The Floyd Estate (in PG County, MD): Dream Home or Nuisance? A Neighborhood Feud or Racism? | WATCH

*When Prince and Angela Floyd went looking for a new house, they never expected to discover the ideal fixer-upper at the secluded end of Farmington Creek Road in Accokeek, Maryland (in Prince George’s County). We’re talking love at first sight.

What was originally a fixer-upper quickly transformed into their dream home under the skilled hands of Prince, who just happens to be a carpenter.

“I’m from North Carolina and always wanted to live on the water. Finding this place in Prince George’s is amazing,” Angela shared. Her husband echoed the sentiment, adding, “I put my heart and soul into this house.”

Their dream home, now known as Floyd Estate, became a central hub for their large family gatherings, friendly get-togethers, college alumni reunions, and even political fundraisers.

However, the couple’s joy was soon overshadowed by frequent complaints from neighbors who accused them of hosting disruptive parties.

“Whenever we have immediate family gatherings, it’s 50 to 60 people. But every time we had an event, the police were called. It’s embarrassing,” Angela revealed. As of last summer, the police had responded to their residence 41 times for noise and parking complaints linked to 11 events since the couple moved in, reports WJLA.

Angela felt targeted, describing the complaints as harassment and intimidation. “The people in this community use agencies against us. Agencies have shown up multiple times, yet we’ve never been given one ticket,” she said.

Contrary to the Floyds’ experiences, the neighbors and police have a different narrative. Testimonies supporting a nuisance property complaint before the county Nuisance Abatement Board stated that the Floyds’ parties involved busloads of people and were seen as “a direct act of rebellion against county regulations.”

“This is not a for-rent venue,” Angela insisted. “This is what we do. We gather. Our family gathers. We get strength from gatherings.”

Fed up with what they perceived as racial targeting, the Floyds filed a federal civil rights complaint against several neighbors, Prince George’s County, and the police officer managing their cases.

They allege that predominantly white neighbors are singling them out because they are Black and are seeking $ million in damages.

“It seems to happen to just us. So now we’re seeking justice for just us,” Angela stated passionately. Prince added, “I just want to enjoy my residence without being harassed.”

While a county spokesperson declined to comment, citing the ongoing lawsuit, it’s clear this legal battle will be anything but straightforward. The Floyds are requesting a jury trial to determine who is in the right in this bitter neighborhood dispute.

As the community watches and waits, the story of Floyd Estate remains a stark reminder of the complex interplay between neighborly relations, property rights, and allegations of racial discrimination. Whether the Floyds will be able to enjoy their gatherings in peace or continue to face conflict remains to be seen.
