*Authorities in Louisiana are investigating the deaths of a couple who were found shot to death on a highway over the weekend.
On Saturday, October 12, police discovered the bodies of 17-year-old Dashayla Ardoin from Mamou, Louisiana, and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Glenkeithan Robertson, a DJ from Opelousas, along a highway in Acadia Parish, according to local officials, PEOPLE reports.
“From the investigation, this case is believed to be a murder/suicide,” the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Sheriff KP Gibson stated that Robertson is believed to have been the shooter, but no motive has been identified. The couple was reportedly traveling to Mamou High School where Ardoin was a student. It is believed they were headed to the school’s homecoming event that evening, per the school’s Facebook page.
In a tribute posted online, Mamou High School said: “Dashayla will always be remembered for her courage and bravery, her kind heart, and her beautiful smile,” read a part of the tribute posted on Monday. “She was so very loved and will be dearly missed.”
A witness recounted seeing the couple arrive in a truck moments before hearing gunshots.
“A truck pulled up right across the street, happens all the time, literally every single day,” Austin Bellard told local news station KLFY.
“It wasn’t a truck that I normally seen, but it didn’t look out of place either,” Bellard said.
“They pulled up and I heard a couple of gunshots, didn’t really think anything of it,’ he recounted.
Bellard rushed over to see what happened, telling the news station: “I don’t want to tell you what I saw. It wasn’t good.”
According to the sheriff’s office, Dashayla and Glenkeithan’s deaths are under investigation.
