*More than a decade after Gary Coleman’s death, a new documentary is bringing back the notion that his wife is behind his untimely passing. Citing claims made in the film, titled “Gary,” Radar Online mentioned that Coleman did not pass away due to natural causes. The culprit, according to the outlet, was Shannon Price, who married the “Diff’rent Strokes” fixture several months after meeting in early 2007.
Before the allegations against Price, Coleman’s death was initially ruled an accident after suffering a fall in his Santaquin, Utah-based home. Commenting on the situation, medical examiners said the fall resulted in a fatal intracranial hemorrhage.
Despite this, “Gary” promotes the notion of something else coming into play than a simple fall due to his short stature.
Among those believing Price is responsible for the entertainer’s demise is his longtime friend and former business manager Dion Mial, along with Coleman’s friends Darren Nord and Brandi Buys. The trio believes that Price had something to do with the tragedy.
“We were absolutely stumped because there were way too many questions with no answers,” Mial said. Nord agreed, labeling circumstances surrounding Coleman’s death “suspicious.”
Coleman’s success on “Diff’rent Strokes” gave way to immense fame for the actor during the sitcom’s run from 1978–1986. Although his fame triggered great highs, “Gary” details the lows Coleman experienced, particularly his troubled relationship with his parents and the resulting lawsuit against them and others under accusations of misappropriating his earnings. Radar noted that the suit was triggered when Coleman saw little of the more than $18 million he made during his career. As a result, the former TV fixture claimed his parents and others took 42.5% of what he earned before taxes.
In addition to Coleman’s lawsuits, scandal, and financial ruin, “Gary” shines a light on what Price was up to the day Coleman’s fatal fall occurred on May 28, 2010.
During a 911 call that was made, Price’s reluctance to help her injured husband is present when she tells an operator from the scene of his apparent fall, “No, I can’t, it’s like all bloody, and I’m not… I’m not trying to… he, he’s not with it.”
In defending her actions, Price stated, “I didn’t touch him… nothing happened” before mentioning how worrying about her own health caused her to flee the scene. “I don’t want to be traumatized right now,” she said.
From there, Price only added to the suspicion, Price by not accompanying Coleman to the hospital and later deciding to take him off life support. All this despite honoring Coleman’s wishes to be kept alive for two weeks in case of a catastrophe.
Radar goes on to note comments from Coleman’s former girlfriend, Anna Gray, who is quoted in the documentary saying, “I think Price’s actions speak volumes, and I don’t have to say much more than that.”
The “Gary” documentary goes on to note another shocking decision Price made in her choice to sell a photo of Coleman on his deathbed.
For Mial, the move is “one of the most depraved acts I’ve ever seen perpetrated on another human being in my life”.
“Gary,” which premiered Aug. 29, is currently streaming on Peacock.
