*We caught up with Hollywood icon Ernie Hudson to discuss the new season of BET+’s “Carl Weber’s The Family Business.”
With the fifth season premiering this week, Hudson shared insights into his multifaceted role as L.C. Duncan on the show. He also reflected on the challenges and rewards of bringing the complex, dynamic world of the Duncan family to life.
Season 5 finds L.C. fighting against the family as new characters and alliances impact his journey and the dynamic world of the Duncan family. The ensemble includes Valarie Pettiford, Darrin Henson, Javicia Leslie, Sean Ringgold, Tami Roman, and Miguel A. Núñez Jr.
Here’s the official synopsis: The family ties that bind the Duncans have reached the breaking point as the family faces secrets from the past that threaten everything they’ve built. But this time, their enemies are coming from the inside of the family, and they have no one to blame but themselves. As LC, Chippy, and the entire Duncan clan welcome their son, Vegas home, they are disheartened by Junior leaving the family. As LC does whatever it takes to protect Vegas, allies become enemies who devise a plan to overtake The Table. A thief in the night proves to be more than just a random robber, and he leads Rio on a hunt that will change the Duncan family forever. Meanwhile, Paris’s ex, Niles Monroe, reappears unexpectedly with a warning of sweet revenge.

In a 2022 interview with BET.com about the series, Weber said, “I’m a person who understands and knows the characters better than anybody else, so making sure that the right storylines are put into the shows. It’s very important to me. We have a saying, “It’s in the book!” and when you can do that, you can keep the fan base happy, and unlike a lot of other productions and shows and stuff like that, we have a fan base of the books that are the backbone to the show.”
He added, “And that’s very important because they’ll get on the internet and social media and they’ll talk about the book, and people would say, “I saw that on the show” and it stirs other people up and we’re more so a little different than some of the other shows. Our shows are more grassroots because of the books that you know, and that really pleases me and seems to make the fans extremely happy.”
