*Chaka Khan is single a legal tune after Los Angeles-based property owner is suing the legendary songstress over allegedly violating a lease agreement and alleged incident involving her dog attacking a neighbor

Referencing court documents obtained by the Blast, Madame Noire detailed the suit, which alleges that Khan breached her contract with the property owner by “housing one or more pets on the property, contrary to the lease terms,” and that “the pet in question, a dog, chased and harmed a neighbor, who is now seeking recovery from (the owners.)”

The suit goes on to mention claims from the Santa Monica, California-based property owner that say Khan “breached the lease by failing to vacate the property by November 1, 2023, [2] subletting the property to her son and other occupants in violation of the provision of the lease.” According to the lawsuit, the lease expired Oct. 31.

In addition, the lawsuit alleges that Khan failed to “pay holdover rent” and changed “the lock and/or entrance codes to prevent (the owner) from having access to the property.”

According to Madame Noire, the property owner claims to have been “damaged in court” behind the incident involving Khan’s dog.” Compensation from Khan for what was lost is being sought as well as coverage of all court costs and legal fees.

At this time, the “Through the Fire” vocalist has not yet responded to the LA lawsuit, the Blast reported.

The property owner’s lawsuit is not the first time Khan has been in the line of legal fire. In 2008, the “Ain’t Nobody” vocalist and her son Damien Holland were ordered by a judge to pay more than $1.3 million to the family of a teenager killed by Holland during a dispute in Khan’s home. Two years before the case, Holland was acquitted of murder charges.

In 2010, an audio production company sued Khan, claiming the entertainer did not pay them the $5,000 she owed after performing a concert in Hawaii. Fast forward to 2019, when Khan was sued by her former manager under claims she owed $236,000 in business and personal management services.
