*During the University of Southern California Trojans game against the University of California Bruins on Saturday in Los Angeles, Bronny James was met with “overrated” and “who’s your daddy” chants.
On X/Twitter, one user said of the wild reaction, “The classy thing to do would have been to cheer the kid on for fighting back from a heart condition that almost killed him. Bruins will be bruins.”
Another X user posted, “Disrespectful and is disgusting fan behavior…UCLA needs to address this.” A third person wrote, “Taunting is a part of basketball. Man up or go join the figure skating team.”
The Trojan’s guard, who is the son of NBA icon LeBron James, suffered a cardiac arrest five months ago. There were doubts at the time that Bronny would be unable to return to the sport.
We reported earlier that Bronny was attending an informal team workout last July when he collapsed, and 911 was called. A statement released the following day from his team said that Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest and was treated by USC’s medical staff before being taken to the hospital. He spent time in the ICU before eventually being stabilized and released days later.

In August 2023, the family confirmed that Bronny was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and expected to recover from his cardiac arrest, CNN reported. The James family said doctors determined the “probable cause” of the cardiac arrest.
“It is an anatomically and functionally significant Congenital Heart Defect which can and will be treated,” the family statement said. The family is “very confident” in a full recovery for Bronny and a “return to basketball in the very near future.”
