*Amazon, it appears, has bowed to pressure and has ceased the sale of a memoir that claimed to be penned by Kim Porter, the late ex-partner of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The book, titled “Kim’s Lost Words: A Journey for Justice, From the Other Side,” was published by Todd Christopher Guzze under the pseudonym Jamal T. Millwood. This self-published work was based on a supposed collection of diary entries and documents, said to illustrate Porter’s tumultuous relationship with Combs.
Following a spike in interest after Combs was arrested on serious charges in September, “Kim’s Lost Words” briefly soared to the top of Amazon’s bestseller list. However, the memoir quickly became a focal point of controversy as allegations arose that the book was fabricated.
This prompted an outcry from Porter’s children, who vehemently disputed the legitimacy of the memoir, asserting it was “simply untrue” that their mother had authored any such work.
Porter, who passed away suddenly from pneumonia in 2018 at the age of 47, left behind three children with Combs: Christian, now 26, and the 17-year-old twins Jessie and D’Lila. She also raised Quincy Brown, 33, from her previous relationship (and marriage) with singer/producer Al B Sure!.
The children issued a poignant statement condemning the book, emphasizing that anyone claiming to represent their mother’s legacy is misleading the public. They took a firm stance against any so-called friends who might claim to speak on her behalf, underscoring their distrust and concern for her true legacy.
This latest controversy has added another layer to the already complicated narrative surrounding Porter’s life and death. Al B Sure! had even raised doubts about Porter’s untimely passing, further igniting speculation among fans and media outlets regarding her death. This backdrop made the release of “Kim’s Lost Words” even more sensationalized, with many questioning the motivations behind its publication.
Following the uproar and following Guzze’s efforts to stop the book, Amazon confirmed it no longer offers “Kim’s Lost Words” for sale. An Amazon spokesperson explained, “We were made aware of a dispute regarding this title and have notified the publisher. The book is not currently available for sale in our store.”
The situation leaves many wondering about the ethics of self-publishing and the responsibilities associated with representing someone else’s story, especially one as sensitive as that of Kim Porter. As the dust settles, it seems the focus will now shift back to preserving the memory of Porter and supporting her family amidst this tumultuous period.
