The newly released trailer quickly establishes the character’s desperate circumstances. Misty is thrown out of her apartment, admits she’s broke and worries about supporting her brother, played by Daniel Kaluuya.
“I’m broke,” Misty says early in the trailer. “It’s not just me though; I’ve got my brother.”
As she attempts to restart her career, she encounters an entertainment executive played by Topher Grace, who delivers an unsettling assessment of her prospects.
“It’s tough out there,” he tells her. “I don’t know if I can even get you on ‘Law & Order’ now.”
The exchange underscores one of the film’s central themes: how quickly Hollywood can forget performers who once seemed destined for bigger things.
Hollywood, Race and Redemption
While “Misty Green” appears to be a character study, the trailer also hints at broader conversations about race, opportunity and accountability within the entertainment industry.
At one point, Grace’s character tells Misty, “You’re not exactly an unknown, Misty. Is Hollywood racist, yep. Don’t act like you never had a shot.”
The line suggests the film will examine the complicated intersection of systemic barriers and personal responsibility rather than offering easy answers.
Misty herself appears unapologetic about her unconventional lifestyle.
“I wake up when I want to wake up. I sleep when I want to sleep. I get high when I want to get high. I f— when I want to f—,” she declares in one scene.
Rock’s character later reminds her of a previous incident that may have damaged her reputation.
“The last time I cast you, you punched this bitch in the face.”
“She hit me first,” Misty replies.
The trailer also introduces Adam Driver’s mysterious character, who approaches Misty with an unusual proposition.
“I’m looking for open-minded friends who might want to make a little extra cash,” he tells her.
Along the way, audiences also see Misty auditioning, performing “One Night Only” and trying to navigate a life that appears increasingly uncertain both professionally and personally.
A Powerful Ensemble
Beyond Eleazar’s lead performance, “Misty Green” features an impressive supporting cast that includes Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, Topher Grace, and Rock.
The combination of acclaimed actors and Rock’s original screenplay has already generated attention ahead of the film’s Toronto debut.
The project also marks another chapter in Rock’s evolving filmmaking career. In addition to directing “Top Five,” he previously helmed “Head of State” and “I Think I Love My Wife.” As an actor, he has appeared in films including “Rustin,” “Amsterdam” and “Spiral: From the Book of Saw,” while also earning praise for his role in FX’s “Fargo.”
