*21 Savage has confirmed that his American Dream trailer is “parody” art.

We reported earlier that the rapper released a new music video-style trailer for “American Dream: The 21 Savage Story,” and many assumed it was a teaser for an upcoming biopic.

The video unpacks the Grammy-winning artist’s experience of being detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2019. “American Dream” features Donald Glover as 21 Savage, and “Stranger Things” star Caleb McLaughlin portrays the younger version of the rapper.

A Lionsgate logo appears ahead of the trailer, and the end teases a release on “Independence Day.” As it turns out, the footage is not part of a larger project.

“Nah, that was a parody,” 21 Savage told Shannon Sharpe on Wednesday’s episode of the Club Shay Shay podcast.

“I feel like it could be one day,” 21 said of a potential biopic about his life,” he added. “They would hate on it now though. Because they gon’ be like, ‘What the fuck 21 Savage deserve a story for, a movie about him for? What he did?’ You know how they do.”

ICE officials detained the hip-hop star (real name She’yaa Bin Abraham Joseph) five years ago for living in the US illegally for years on an expired visa. Per TMZ, “Authorities later claimed the rapper threw out a bottle of codeine during that ICE arrest … and they say a handgun was also found in his vehicle,” the outlet writes.

“His whole public persona is false. He actually came to the U.S. from the U.K. as a teen and overstayed his visa,” an ICE official said about 21 Savage in 2019, according to SandraRose.com.
