*Soulja Boy is apparently too broke to pay off a 6-figure judgment to his ex-girlfriend after a jury found him liable for an alleged assault against his ex-girlfriend Kayla Myers.
The hip-hop star (born Deandre Way) sought to have the judgment thrown out due to his financial hardships, but the judge advised him to cut his monthly expenses, RadarOnline.com reports. The Los Angeles judge previously ordered Soulja Boy to pay Myers over $230k.
The ex-couple faced off in court in April as part of a civil lawsuit filed by Myers accusing the artist of violently assaulting her in 2019 at a Malibu house party. According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, Meyers said she got into a fight with Soulja’s female assistant and while knocked on the ground, Soulja kicked her in the stomach. He also beat her head with a large gun, she claims.
According to her lawsuit, a male assistant tied Meyers to a chair in his garage using extension cords, and she was held hostage for 6 hours. Meyers claims the male assistant said he would release her if she performed a sexual act on him. In the court docs, the alleged victim states she had no choice but to comply. Once released, she ran home, Radar reports.
During the alleged attack, she fractured three ribs and bruised her face, according to Meyers’ attorneys. The hip-hop star was never charged over the alleged assault, Radar reports.
A jury sided with Meyers and she was awarded $1,800 for mental health expenses and another $234,100 for physical and mental pain and suffering, according to Radar.

Recently, Soulja argued the punitive damages awarded were too high. He claimed that he was not as rich as he once was.
He testified that he made millions off of his 2007 hit Crank That but that has “spent a lot of money” over the years.
Soulja said the pandemic hurt his bank account and all of his 2023 shows have been canceled. In addition, he claimed to have a $1 million tax debt he’s working on handling. He argued he didn’t have the funds to cover the punitive damages award.
A hearing was held on the matter this week with the judge agreeing that “at least based on the evidence” Soulja’s “net worth is negative.” However, he noted that Soulja has the ability to make 5-figures per show.
Soulja’s $25k per month was cited by the judge as a reason for denying his motion to throw out punitive damages.
Per Radar, he advised, “Someone as close to zero (financially) as defendant claims to be might want to scale down the living arrangements. $25,000 is a lot of monthly rent—even in Los Angeles. There is no reason of which the court is aware that he could not relocate to a more “modest” $10,000/month home.”
The judge added, “defendant must be earning money from somewhere sufficient to pay for the rent and whatever other monthly expenses he has. In other words, defendant is paying $300,000/year in rent alone. It stands to reason that he must have some other living expenses. And that money must come from somewhere. It is not coming from loans, for defendant did not testify as to any other debts. So, although the court does not know from whence the money is coming, it is coming from somewhere. It is not an impossible inference to conclude that his overall financial condition must be sufficient to allow him to live the life style he does without going into debt.”
There will be no change to the punitive damages, according to the judge.
