Sister of L.A. Clippers Star Kawhi Leonard Sentenced to Life in Prison for Murder

*The sister of L.A. Clippers star Kawhi Leonard will live out the rest of her days in prison after receiving life without parole for the murder of an elderly woman in 2019.

EUR reported previously that Kimesha Williams and Candace Townsel were charged with the murder and robbery of Afaf Anis Assad, 84, at the Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula in August 2019. Williams and Townsel are accused of following Assad into a bathroom at the casino, violently attacking her, and stealing her purse containing up to $1,200, according to The Press-Enterprise

The victim was reportedly found unconscious in the bathroom at the casino. The Long Beach, CA resident suffered a skull fracture and died from her injuries four days later.

Williams and Townsell were ultimately found guilty of first-degree murder, robbery, and elder abuse.

“She didn’t even get a chance to play,” son-in-law Wayne Brown previously told CBS in Los Angeles. “I mean she had some money in her wallet because she was ready to play that day, and I don’t know if they targeted her because she just walked through the door and they knew she had money in her wallet.”

“We are absolutely saddened over this incident and are praying for the victim and her family,” the casino said at the time of the attack in a statement to CBS.  “The suspects were quickly identified through surveillance footage and the information was immediately provided to law enforcement.”

Meanwhile, Kimesha Williams has a history of convictions, including petty theft, grand theft, and misappropriating lost property, according to the Press-Enterprise.

Also worth noting is that Kawhi Leonard’s father was shot and killed outside the carwash he owned in Compton in 2008. Leonard was 16 at the time.
