*The NFL announced Thursday that the Buffalo Bills vs. Cincinnati Bengals game will not be rescheduled after Monday night’s game was postponed due to Damar Hamlin’s medical emergency.
As TMZ reports, the league will not make up the Week 17 game after Hamiln, a Buffalo Bills safety, had to be resuscitated twice after going into cardiac arrest Monday night. The shocking moment occurred during the game against the Bengals and quickly went viral, but now fellow players are urging fans not to share the video.
As EUR reported previously, Hamlin collapsed on the field in the first quarter. He suffered an injury from an open field tackle of Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins.
Hamlin was administered CPR and was driven from the stadium in an ambulance to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The game was suspended at 5:58 of the first quarter.

“This has been a very difficult week,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement, Fox News reports. “We continue to focus on the recovery of Damar Hamlin and are encouraged by the improvements in his condition as well as the tremendous outpouring of support and care for Damar and his family from across the country. We are also incredibly appreciative of the amazing work of the medical personnel and commend each and every one of them.”
Hamlin’s uncle Dorrian Glenn told CNN Tuesday night that the 24-year-old remains sedated in the hospital.
Hamlin’s breathing tube has reportedly been removed and he even responded to doctors’ orders. According to Fox News, and he also asked doctors via writing who won Monday night’s game.
“As we considered the football schedule, our principles have been to limit disruption across the league and minimize competitive inequities,” Goodell said. “I recognize that there is no perfect solution. The proposal we are asking the ownership to consider, however, addresses the most significant potential equitable issues created by the difficult, but necessary, decision not to play the game under these extraordinary circumstances.”
A resumption of Monday’s game would have meant a postponement of the playoffs, which would have affected all 14 teams, the NFL said.
The league also noted that “making the decision prior to Week 18 is consistent with our competitive principles and enables all clubs to know the playoff possibilities prior to playing the final weekend of regular season games.”
