*Joe Jackson’s complicated place in music history will become the focus of a new documentary project led by his son Marlon Jackson.
According to Page Six, Marlon has joined BLK Prime to develop “The Manager, The Mythology, The Legend,” an eight-episode series examining the late patriarch’s rise as the driving force behind the Jackson family’s success.
Longtime family friend Steven Manning is among the project’s executive producers. The series is expected to explore how Joe trained and managed his children before the Jackson Five became an international phenomenon. Marlon said the production will acknowledge both the accomplishments and controversies that shaped his father’s public image.

“Our father’s life is replete with triumphs and challenges, and we firmly believe that this series will offer a distinctive and accurate portrayal of the man behind our family,” he said.
“We are thrilled to share [my] father’s indelible legacy with fans worldwide, granting them an intimate glimpse into the remarkable individual we knew and loved,” Marlon added.
Joe’s legacy has long been defined by portrayals emphasizing allegations of abuse and his strict parenting. A person familiar with Marlon’s docuseries said the new project aims to explore the parts of his story that have largely gone untold.
“There’s another side of him that hasn’t been told. He hasn’t been portrayed in a good light,” the source said. “There’s no manager greater than Mr. Jackson. He created the Jackson Five, Janet and Michael.”
