*Ludacris‘ longtime manager, Chaka Zulu, has another reason to be thankful this holiday season.
The Jasmine Brand reports Chaka Zula (born Ahmed Obafemi) has been cleared of all charges related to a 2022 shooting that left one man dead. Obafemi was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and simple battery in the incident, which reportedly occurred on June 26 in the parking lot of his Buckhead, GA restaurant Apt4B.
According to reports, Obafemi was one of three people involved in what appeared to be an argument or altercation in the parking lot.
Twenty-three-year-old Artez Benton died because of the incident, while another person ended up in the hospital. On Sept. 13, 2022, Obafemi turned himself into the authorities.
The same day the Disturbing Tha Peace record label co-founder was released the same day on a $200,000 bond.
Obafemi’s legal team argued self-defense as the reason their client fired his weapon after being jumped by a group of men. Media sources report the music executive was cleared on Nov. 22.
Responding to the cleared charges, Obafemi’s lawyer expressed gratitude, while emphasizing his client’s commitment to “a fair process.”
“Mr. Chaka Zulu, a beloved son of Atlanta, is pleased with the outcome of the thorough investigation conducted by District Attorney Fani Willis and her team of lawyers and investigators. From the beginning of this case, Mr. Zulu was committed to a fair process,” Obafemi’s lawyer said in a statement. “He fully believes that after a thoughtful examination of all the facts and evidence related to this matter, District Attorney Willis reached an appropriate and just decision. It is not lost on Mr. Zulu that there was a loss of life under extraordinary circumstances. However, it is now time for Mr. Zulu to put this difficult process behind him, and to focus on the support and nurturing of his family.
