*Burna Boy speaks on how dark-skinned African men were not in vogue, and now it’s their season to shine since the emerging popularity of the musical genre Afro-Beats. In an interview with Kiss Fresh British radio, he said that society tried to give him a complex and make him question his self-worth. Using his single “City Boys,” Burna Boy addresses the topic of colorism. “That was the view society had of us. The whole narrative has changed, and now it’s like, ‘Hmmm, so the whole time they were trying to finesse us.” We all have to fight the lies they tell us every day!

Yung Miami reflects on City Girls’ album “City On Lock” and how the record triggers her because it reminds her of losing her son’s father. Fans offered comfort in the comment section, “This is how real friends/sisters talk. I love how JT is actively engaged in their conversation & makes sure Miami feels heard & understood ????.” Another added, “Grief is never ending and unexpected triggers happen all throughout your life. Idk why people try to put a time on how long it should take. It’s good that she has someone there through everything.” Yung Miami, take it one day at a time.

Issa Rae spoke on a panel for the 2023 Culture Con, and moderator Glenda McNeal made a cardinal sin in mispronouncing Issa‘s name (gasp): Glenda, you in danger, girl. Ms. G quickly had to come correct because Issa‘s tribe immediately said to put some respeck on the trailblazer’s name. Watch the video below.

Social media comedian, actress, and entrepreneur LaLa Milan and her boyfriend Tyler P have made their duo a trio and are expecting a baby. The happy couple did a photo shoot and interview with Essence. “Listen, I tried to get on birth control multiple times. Each time I went to the OBGYN they had the wrong birth control. It happened three times! And by the time they got it right, they called and said, “We have your birth control ready.” I said, “I’m pregnant.” They were like “Um, uh, uh…” I said, “It’s ok. I’m excited and I’m keeping it. Thank y’all.’ But the crazy thing is, the doctor’s office where I was trying to get the birth control from [in Los Angeles], she’s a Black woman. I ended up calling her later and asking her to refer me to a good prenatal care office, because the one I went to first, the guy was passive. He could have cared less. He was rushing me out of the office. I’ve heard so much about Black women’s struggles giving birth to the point where I was like, oh no, I don’t feel comfortable. I’m gone. So she referred me to an office with all women of color and I’m very excited about that. All the doctors come in and they know how to pronounce my name! Everybody has natural hair. Girl, it’s so beautiful.” We send our congratulations to LaLa and Tyler P.
