*A Walmart cashier in Georgia was bamboozled by a couple who tricked the worker into giving them $6,400 worth of gift cards and merchandise.
The incident reportedly happened on Nov. 30 at a Walmart in Grovetown, located at Interstate 20 and Lewiston Road, according to WRDW News. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said a man and woman attempted to buy several expensive items using the “theft by deception” trick.
The couple allegedly confused the cashier by making several credit card transactions using the cash button on the register and this maneuver “allowed the register to ring up the sale as if cash was being paid, so the credit card ultimately was not charged,” WRDW News writes.
The thieves left reported made off with $3,400 in merchandise and $3,000 in gift cards and paid for none of it.
