The producer and author gets candid in the latest episode of “Red Table Talk,” about being on the “other side of a marriage that did not work,” he said.

“It changes everything… I just bought a piece of property, first piece of property. In the contract: ‘DeVon Franklin, an unmarried man,'” Franklin said. “I might’ve well broken down. Because I never saw this moment.” Franklin explained that when he said “I do” to Good, “there was never a moment when we were thinking ‘I don’t.'”

“So to live in the ‘I don’t,’ you don’t know what it’s like until you do,” he added.

Check out what Franklin had to say in the clip above.

As we previously reported, Franklin filed for divorce in December 2020 citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the breakup. He and Goode tied the knot in June 2012 and separated in August 2021. At the time of their divorce announcement, Good and Franklin explained in a joint statement that “after much prayer and consideration, we have decided to go into our futures separately but forever connected. We celebrate almost a decade of marriage together and a love that is eternal. There’s no one at fault, we believe this is the next best chapter in the evolution of our love.”

Goode told PEOPLE in May that she is now putting herself first.

“I’ve learned to not be as much of a people pleaser,” she said. “I’ve learned that not everybody’s going to get you or like you, and that’s okay. And knowing who your tribe is and being really thankful for that, and knowing sometimes they’re not your tribe — that’s okay too.”

She went on to say that she remains focused on “loving and treating people with respect regardless, and never letting how people treat you change the integrity of who you want to be. I think in this season especially, I’m learning to live again in a different way.”

The new episode of Red Table Talk premieres Monday at 12 p.m. ET on Facebook Watch.
