What To Expect From S2 of Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ | Watch

Season two of “The Witcher” drops on Netflix Friday!

This season we’ll travel with Geralt (Henry Cavill) and Princess Cirlla (Freya Allen) to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen for safety and training. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans, and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous – the mysterious power she possesses inside.

Cavill talked to EUR correspondent Jill Munroe about the success of season one and expectations for season two.

Cavill was a super fan of the series before joining. However, when asked about the potential of fans to sometimes be fickle when it comes to a beloved book or video game that is adapted for series, Cavil said he understands that trait.

“I love it when fans are particular because I am too,” said Cavill. “I completely understand that. Expecting success is never a wise move, but I knew there was a large built-in fan base already. It’s huge when combining the two (books and games); I knew the fans would watch. So, in season two, the responsibility was to provide the fans with as much of what they love as the showrunner’s vision would allow because I am as much a book fan, a fan of the source material as they are. I want to represent the character in the most respectful way possible.”

His co-star Kim Bodnia, who plays Vesemir, added, “all the fans, all the nerds, want to create something new, something better, and they were allowed to do it. So you’re coming with some very creative people. It’s incredible love from all sides.”

Kristofer Hivju, who plays the woolly Nivellen, said it’s exciting when “you know everyone, you understand the characters and are ready to step up your game.”

So what can we expect to see in season two?

Cavil shared a few tidbits, “we will certainly have a linear timeline this season, less jumping about. We will absolutely explorer the “emotionality” of Witchers this season. Rather than just being rough and tough grumpy snowmen living in the mountains. They will have some soulfulness to them. To have some three-dimensionality to the characters, that’s important. Kim and I worked together very closely to bring a richness to these characters.”
