Rachel Lindsay: Black ‘Bachelorette’ in Court for Walmart

First Black ‘Bachelorette’

*Surely you’ve heard by now that Rachel Lindsay has been cast as the next “Bachelorette,” marking the first time an African-American will star in the leading role in the popular franchise.

But before she and her white male suitors can entertain viewers with their feigning affections for each other, she needs to focus on her day job — a lawyer who’s actively defending big-time clients … like Walmart.

Sources at Rachel’s firm in Texas tell TMZ she’s assisting on a pending “slip and fall” case for Walmart Stores Texas. The site reports that Rachel was actively working the case just last week and will be in the office again later this week … despite the breaking news that she’s the new “Bachelorette.”

Bachelorette

Lindsay is currently an associate at Cooper & Scully and it’s unclear how she’ll balance legal work with reality TV. ”The Bachelorette” typically starts taping in late March and starts airing in May.

Rachael is a contestant on Nick Viall’s current season of “The Bachelor,” and she was a clear frontrunner after scoring the First Impression Rose during the show’s premiere. However, with Lindsay’s casting as the next “Bachelorette,” it’s safe to assume she doesn’t win Viall’s final rose, although she is still currently on the show.

Non-White contestants seldom go far on the series. In fact, no black contestant has ever made it past Week 5 in the first 20 seasons. Viall’s season is actually one of the most diverse yet, starting with 10 non-Caucasian contestants — at the beginning of the show.

Back in 2012, a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit brought by two black males who had auditioned for “The Bachelor,” but were rejected and then accused the show/producers of racism and discrimination against people of color both in choosing the primary contestants and the people he/she will have to choose from.
