*Before she begins her second season as Nekeisha on NBC’s “The Carmichael Show” next month, co-star Tiffany Haddish will try to “win the Internet” tonight on Comedy Central’s “@midnight,” a show where three comedians compete to create the funniest responses to that day’s most memorable happenings across the web and social media.
The 36-year-old native of South Central Los Angeles has a background in comedy that dates back to the Laugh Factory Comedy Camp during high school, an option given to her by a social worker as an alternative to getting psychiatric therapy.
“I was getting in trouble a lot in school for talking,” explained the actress, who spent time in foster care as a teen, along with her four siblings, after a car accident triggered their mother’s schizophrenia. “I went to the comedy camp because I didn’t want to be on drugs or nothin’, and that’s where I learned communications skills and confidence.”
Ironically, her “Carmichael” co-star David Alan Grier was a mentor at the camp, as was the late comedy legend Richard Pryor.
Below, she talks to EURweb exclusively about her run-in with Pryor at the comedy camp and the advice he gave her:
Haddish also stars as Jackie on Tyler Perry’s OWN drama “If Loving You Is Wrong.”
Season 2 of “The Carmichael Show” begins March 13 at 9 p.m. (with a preview episode airing Wednesday, March 9, at 10 p.m.)
Watch Tiffany’s return appearance on “@midnight” tonight at 12 a.m. on Comedy Central. Below is a clip from her Dec. 2015 appearance with Tone Bell and Colton Dunn:
