*Here we go again. The whole but we’re not racist mantra that generally follows any action or event that perpetuates racism.
Now we’ve got a group of students from Fairfield University, a Jesuit school in Fairfield, Connecticut, who decided to throw what they promoted as a “Ghetto Party” at an off-campus beach house over the weekend.
Of course the name alone triggered racial allegations, and now the Fairfield students are either making a mockery of the hoopla surrounding the insensitive act; while others found the idea of such a party, disgusting.
“I wore a hot dog costume to this party and now feel that my actions have caused emotional harm to all of the hot dog community,” said one social media commenter. “Specifically I would like to apologize to Mr. Oscar Meyer as I did not mean to portray your weiner in a negative fashion.”
And…
“It’s like Halloween, where I’m dressed as a gangster. Nobody said anything then,” student Brian Mason told the Connecticut Post, adding that he had dressed that way as a 4-year-old.
