*The Weeknd has pledged $350,000 from his XO Humanitarian Fund to support relief efforts for Jamaicans affected by Hurricane Melissa.
According to TMZ, the funds will support the World Food Programme’s emergency response, aiming to deliver food kits to up to 200,000 people. Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica last month as a Category 5 storm, with winds reaching 185 MPH. The storm caused catastrophic damage, prompting officials to declare the entire island a disaster area.
Other celebrities have also contributed to Hurricane Melissa relief efforts. Nicki Minaj, Sean Paul, and Maxi Priest are among those making donations to support affected communities. Earlier this month, Minaj’s team distributed care packages with food, water, and various supplies. A fan account wrote, “@NICKIMINAJ’s team is on the ground in Jamaica, directly distributing essential supplies and providing support to families impacted by the recent disaster. She’s acted promptly to ensure meaningful assistance is reaching those who need it most.”

Hurricane Melissa made landfall on October 28, near New Hope in Westmoreland Parish, marking the strongest hurricane ever recorded in Jamaica. The storm caused widespread devastation, particularly in the southern and western regions, and resulted in multiple casualties, including in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Flooding was severe in St. Elizabeth Parish, where up to 40 inches of rain fell. Communities like Santa Cruz and Black River were inundated by flash floods and storm surges up to 13 feet.
The Weeknd’s contribution, along with the efforts of other artists, is helping provide immediate relief to communities still grappling with the aftermath of one of Jamaica’s most destructive storms in history. Officials are now facing the challenge of securing housing for thousands of affected families.
