*Sunny Hostin is addressing the noticeable changes in her voice that have not gone unnoticed by longtime watchers of “The View.”
In a recent episode of the show’s companion podcast “Behind the Table,” Hostin revealed that she’s been managing vocal cord nodules for the past four months, a condition that has made even everyday conversation a painful experience, The Daily Mail reports. The trouble first surfaced during a winter getaway. Hostin explained that a December trip to an exceptionally dry climate, combined with inadequate hydration, set the condition in motion.
“This started in December when I went away and was in a very arid place, very dry,” she said. “I didn’t drink enough water.” She pointed out that the condition is an occupational hazard for anyone whose livelihood depends on their voice, whether in entertainment or the courtroom. “Apparently, this is something that happens to singers, people that talk for a living, which is what I do. I’ve always done it, actually, even as an attorney,” Hostin said.
Medical consultations left her less than satisfied. Doctors presented three potential courses of action — vocal cord rest, injection, or surgery — none of which appealed to her. Hostin said she plans to keep searching for a more palatable solution. “Hopefully… there’s a throat coat thing that I can use and get rid of it,” she said.
The Cleveland Clinic describes vocal cord nodules as “Benign vocal cord lesions are noncancerous growths that may form on one or both vocal cords. They include nodules, polyps and cysts. Most lesions form because you’re overusing or misusing your vocal cords. Treatments include voice therapy, behavior changes to improve your vocal health and surgery.”
