*Stephen A. Smith is no stranger to controversy, but his recent comments during a NewsNation segment have ignited a firestorm of criticism and prompted fans to organize a boycott.
Speaking with Chris Cuomo, Smith addressed the ongoing speculation about Donald Trump’s potential ties to Jeffrey Epstein. He dismissed the significance of the rumored client list, stating, “It’s really, really surprising that this matters. Of course I think there’s a list but I don’t know. I suspect, but I have no knowledge nor do I care.”
Smith continued, expressing disbelief at the emotional reactions from some members of the public. “I’m getting ready to enjoy myself. This client list has no effect on me whatsoever – I have a life. You got people crying on camera, talking about resignations, just angry about everything. … I didn’t blame Trump one bit for looking at them and saying, ‘Really? That really matters to you?’ Maybe he had a different reason for saying it. In the grand scheme of things, it ain’t going to affect the lives of over 200-to-300 million Americans.”
Following these remarks, viewers took to social media in outrage, calling for Smith’s removal from ESPN and pledging to avoid watching “First Take.”
Critics also questioned his integrity and priorities, with one fan stating, “Only thing he cares about his money. No morals, no values, just money.”

In response to the backlash, Smith appeared unbothered. Speaking to TMZ, he brushed off the criticism, saying, “What I have to say is that I don’t care, and the reason that I don’t care is because everybody has an opinion. I get paid for mine. It’s my opinion based on the facts presented. I’m not getting personal, I’m not degrading anybody. I’m just calling it like I see it when asked.”
Despite his defense, the outrage shows no signs of fading, with fans continuing to express disappointment over his take on such a sensitive issue.
