*Smokey Robinson and his wife claim that one of the Jane Doe accusers suing the Motown legend for sexual assault illegally accessed their storage unit on November 22, allegedly taking valuable personal items. The incident was captured on security footage showing the woman and two accomplices removing boxes and loading them into a car.
According to a court filing obtained by Rolling Stone, the accuser, identified as Jane Doe 4, previously had access while working for the Robinsons but no longer had legal permission to enter the unit in Chatsworth, California. The filing states, “Although the Robinsons may have once entrusted Jane Doe 4 with access to the storage unit during the time she worked with them, she no longer had any conceivable legal right to set foot in there – no less brazenly break in and steal from the Robinsons.”
Smokey’s wife, Francis, claims she first learned of the break-in when visiting AAA Self Storage and reviewing 40 minutes of security footage showing Jane Doe 4 and two other individuals removing multiple boxes and two large Santa statues.
Jane Doe 4 worked for the Robinsons for nearly 20 years and was one of four former domestic workers who sued the couple for $50 million last May, alleging sexual harassment, rape, and a hostile work environment. The Robinsons have denied the allegations and counter-sued for defamation and elder abuse. The plaintiffs’ attorneys recently requested to add two additional accusers, including a man claiming unwanted sexual overtures by Robinson, which the Robinsons deny.
In the court filings, the Robinsons’ attorney Christopher Frost described Jane Doe 4 as a “palpable threat” and criticized the actions as motivated by greed. He said, “Beyond absurdity, it is also alarming that she has retained and is exploiting access to the Robinsons’ property, and we are taking swift action to ensure that Jane Doe 4 and those assisting her cannot go near the Robinsons, a couple in their 70s and 80s, because there seem to be no limits on what they are willing to do.”
The Robinsons are asking the court to issue an emergency restraining order requiring the woman to give up any keys she still holds, return the items taken, and maintain a safe distance of at least 100 yards from their property. In addition, they intend to notify law enforcement and file a police report regarding the alleged break-in.
