*This Easter weekend, Warner Bros. made a significant splash at the Easter box office. Their film “Sinners” took the top spot with a strong $45.6 million. Meanwhile, A Minecraft Movie claimed second place with $41.3 million. The success of both films meant Warner Bros. captured a massive 64% of the weekend’s total earnings. This achievement marks the eighth time since 2000 that the studio led the Easter weekend box office. Past hits include Clash of the Titans , Batman v. Superman , and Godzilla v. Kong .
A Stiff Competition
“Sinners” had a particularly impressive Saturday, grossing $16.5 million. This was a smaller drop from Friday’s $19.2 million than many had expected. Competitors anticipated a decline between 24% and 34%. Yet, the movie proved them wrong with only a 14% dip. Similarly, A Minecraft Movie experienced a minor reduction of just 1% from its Friday haul of $16 million to Saturday’s $15.8 million.
Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group leaders Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy expressed their excitement: “As we continue to strive to bring an array of films to moviegoers, we are thrilled to see how Ryan Coogler’s original movie Sinners , and a movie based on the fan-favorite Minecraft game, have resonated with audiences in such a stellar way. Movies have the power to transport us to worlds only seen on the big screen, and Warner Bros. Pictures remains committed to bringing singular in-theater experiences to audiences looking for bold movies, both original and those based on beloved existing properties.”
Sinners Achieves Unique Accolades
Despite not quite matching the Friday numbers of Nope at $19.5 million, Sinners pulled ahead on Saturday, surpassing Nope ‘s $13.9 million for a three-day total of $44.3 million. Its popularity was evident, with sold-out shows like the 7:45 PM IMAX 70MM at AMC Universal Citywalk. On top of that, Sinners is now the only horror movie in over 35 years to receive an A CinemaScore, surpassing the scores of Get Out and A Quiet Place Part II .
In terms of IMAX results, the figures were impressive, with 45% of the weekend’s earnings coming from Premium Large Format (PLF) and IMAX. The film ranks among the top 10 all-time highest-grossing and best-indexing films for the large format exhibitor.

Sinners Top Screening Locations and Cities
Major cities like Los Angeles and New York were top performers for Sinners . AMC Lincoln Square in New York was the leading location, followed by prominent spots in cities like Atlanta and Los Angeles. Los Angeles showed a significant increase in its market share, as did cities such as New York and Atlanta, which outdid their usual performance.
Other Box Office Performers
While Warner Bros. dominated, other films also made waves. King of Kings from Angel Studios had a successful second weekend, earning $17.2 million. Meanwhile, The Amateur and Warfare posted declines from their openings but still added figures to their growing totals.
In the meantime, Drop and Snow White saw a more considerable dip in their revenues. Snow White especially felt the pinch, dropping 60% from its previous weekend earnings.
Anime and Art House Entries
Colorful Stage: The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing entered strong, especially in cities like Orlando, LA, and Seattle. Directed by Hiroyuki Hata, this anime tells the story of Ichika, a musician who collaborates with the iconic Hatsune Miku.
Pride & Prejudice , despite being a re-release, performed admirably at the box office. The classic film found a renewed audience with earnings comparable to its original theatrical run in 2005.

Wrapping Up a Winning Weekend
Overall, the Easter weekend highlighted the continued appeal of compelling storytelling, whether through unique originals like Sinners or adaptations of beloved franchises like Minecraft . As the film industry rebounds, audiences are returning to theaters to experience diverse cinematic adventures.
