*Sherri Shepherd is charting a new path in her career after her daytime talk show was recently canceled. The host and actress will star in the Lifetime original film “Angel in the Rubble,” taking on both an acting and executive producing role, PARADE reports.
Shepherd shared the news on Instagram on Friday, March 6, just weeks after Lionsgate confirmed the end of her syndicated program, “Sherri.”
“Sometimes you have to sit and be still…” Shepherd wrote. “Excited to announce that I will be starring in the [Lifetime] original movie, Angel in the Rubble, the fourth project under the Robin Roberts Presents banner.”

The film adapts the bestselling book “Angel in the Rubble: The Miraculous Rescue of 9/11’s Last Survivor,” which recounts the true story of Genelle Guzman, a New York City transit worker who survived the collapse of Tower One during the September 11 attacks.
Deadline reports that the story “recounts the extraordinary survival of Genelle Guzman (Sherri Shepherd), a NYC transit worker who was buried beneath the collapse of Tower One on 9/11 and trapped for 27 harrowing hours. As she fought to stay alive, Genelle reflected on her life and the faith she had left behind, praying for deliverance and promising to change if given another chance.”
Robin Roberts is executive producing the film through Rock’n Robin Productions, with Shepherd joining her in a producing role. The project is the fourth film under the “Robin Roberts Presents” banner.
The announcement comes a month after Lionsgate confirmed “Sherri” would end following its current season. The company noted: “This decision is driven by the evolving daytime television landscape and does not reflect on the strength of the show, its production – which has found strong creative momentum this season – or the incredibly talented Sherri Shepherd. We believe in this show and in Sherri and intend to explore alternatives for it on other platforms.”
Shepherd expressed her feelings about the cancellation on “TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle,” saying: “I’m thankful that I got to live a dream for four years,” she added. “How many people can say that they got to live a dream with great ratings? Where you got to have a platform that made a difference?”
