*The remarkable true story of Sarah Rector, an African American girl who became a millionaire at age 11 in early 1900s Oklahoma, is coming to theaters in “Sarah’s Oil” on November 7, 2025.
Set in the Oklahoma Indian Territory, the film follows young Sarah as she discovers oil on her seemingly barren allotted land. Her newfound wealth attracts schemers and opportunists, forcing her to navigate a world intent on exploiting her youth, per The Christian Post.
Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Wonder Project, the film stars newcomer Naya Desir-Johnson as Sarah, alongside a talented cast that includes Zachary Levi, Sonequa Martin-Green, Garret Dillahunt, and Mel Rodriguez. Directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh, known for “Infidel,” the screenplay is co-written with Betsy Giffen Nowrasteh, drawing inspiration from Tonya Bolden’s book “Searching for Sarah Rector: The Richest Black Girl in America”.
“Sarah’s journey is one of remarkable resilience,” said producer Kevin Downes. The PG-rated drama aims to inspire hope while addressing historical challenges. Originally slated for a Christmas Day release, the debut was moved up to early November.

The production team, including Andrew and Jon Erwin, Zachary Levi, and Dallas Jenkins, brings experience from projects such as “Jesus Revolution” and “I Can Only Imagine.”
Erwin shared the vision, stating, “The dream of The WONDER Project is to create a trusted brand that serves the faith and values audience globally with movies and TV shows they didn’t know were possible.”
