*Robert Griffin III (RG3) is making himself known again for the wrong reasons.
This time, he’s on the public radar for reposting a racist edited image image of WNBA standout Angel Reese. As if that weren’t enough, Griffin’s comments posted with the image make it more about him than the longstanding deeper issue the picture highlights.
If RG3 wanted a fight, he definitely succeeded. So much so that it brought the wrath of social media to him as well as direct criticism from ESPN analyst Ryan Clark.
According to IceCreamConvos, the situation started on a positive note when news came down July 8 that announced Reese as the cover athlete for the WNBA Edition of NBA 2K26.
Doubling up on the good news, Reese’s signature shoe, the Angel Reese 1, was unveiled on the cover in partnership with Reebok.

Noting the impact of her incredible wins, Reese shared a statement, saying “Being on the cover of NBA 2K26 and debuting my first-ever signature shoe with Reebok on that cover, the Angel Reese 1, is more than a milestone — it’s a statement.
“It’s about representation and showing young girls they can be confident, bold, and take up space unapologetically,” she added.”
From there, things took a turn for the worse. Reese’s image on the game cover was edited to depict her as a monkey.
Fanning the flames further, Griffin reposted the edited photo along with side commentary airing his views on racism. Rather than using the moment to condemn the person who put the racist image out, the NFL quarterback turned commentator turned the spotlight on him.
“There is no place for racism in this world. Whether you like a player or not, Angel Reese should never be called or depicted as a monkey,” Griffin tweeted before launching into his monologue.
“I have been quiet on the Angel Reese front because she shared a video that aided in my wife, kids, family and friends receiving death threats, threats of physical harm, and threats of sexual violence to my children.”
“I never attacked her or her family when I stated, and backed up with clear basketball evidence, that Angel Reese hates Caitlin Clark. It’s sports. Everybody won’t like each other,” he continued. “People in Angel’s inner circle called me and told me I was right, and Angel Reese has grown to hate Caitlin Clark because the media is always asking her about Caitlin and constantly comparing the two. If you hate Angel Reese because she is Black, you are the problem. If you hate Angel Reese because you are a Caitlin Clark fan, don’t turn it racial.”
“There should be no space for racism in this world. There is a wrong side and a right side. I will stay on the right side of history and support all people.”
Alright. This has got to stop. There is no place for racism in this world. Whether you like a player or not. Angel Reese should never be called or depicted as a Monkey.

Griffin’s effort may have warmed his heart, but it didn’t have the same effect for many who read what he said.
Reese, in particular let him it, as she checked him personally on his comments about her and her inner circle
“lying on this app when everybody know the first and last name of everybody in my circle for clout is nastyyyy work,” the Chicago Sky forward replied.

In addition to Reese, Dr. Berniece King, daughter of late civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., chimed in with words to share on how to correctly handle his issues with Reese.
“I agree,” King posted, adding.” That’s why I suggest you call Angel Reese and stop posting about her.”

Following King’s brief but telling reaction, Clark played the closer via a now -viral clip on Instagram,
Like Reese, the former NFL player called out Griffin for making himself the center of the story and failing to something he should’ve instantly did, simply protect a Black woman under attack.
“A graphic I only saw on his page… millions of followers can see this, and it should be easy to defend her… but he couldn’t do that. He had to make himself both the victim and the hero of this story,” Clark said, while touching on Griffin’s fixation on Reese, his obsession with appearing morally superior, and his tendency to weaponize proximity to whiteness.
“If you never support people that look like you, you are also a part of the problem.”

So how do you feel about RG3 and his response to Reese’s situation? Was he on point with his commentary and bringing his thoughts about Reese to the front? Or could he have focused more on the bigger issue instead of his personal hang ups?
