*A crowdfunding effort supporting the family of a Minneapolis mother fatally shot during an immigration enforcement action has concluded after surpassing $1.5 million in contributions. The GoFundMe campaign for Renee Nicole Good’s loved ones closed following donations from more than 38,500 people, USA Today reports.
Campaign organizers launched the fundraiser within hours of the January 7 incident that claimed Good’s life. The 37-year-old mother of three was killed while using her Honda Pilot SUV to block ICE agents during an operation on a residential street. The campaign collected $1,503,533 before organizers announced its closure with a message thanking supporters. “We’ve closed this GoFundMe and will place the funds in a trust for the family,” the note said. “If you’re looking to donate, we encourage you to support others in need. We’re truly grateful.”
Rebecca Good, Renee’s wife, provided a statement to Minnesota Public Radio explaining the couple had “stopped to support our neighbors” when the fatal shooting occurred. “We had whistles. They had guns,” Rebecca Good said.

Her statement on the fundraising page honored her late spouse while addressing their three children’s future. Good leaves behind a 15-year-old daughter and sons aged 12 and 6, according to The Washington Post. “First, I want to extend my gratitude to all the people who have reached out from across the country and around the world to support our family,” Good said.
“This kindness of strangers is the most fitting tribute because if you ever encountered my wife, Renee Nicole Macklin Good, you know that above all else, she was kind. In fact, kindness radiated out of her,” she added.
Rebecca Good acknowledged that the youngest child had already experienced the loss of his father. “I am now left to raise our son and to continue teaching him, as Renee believed, that there are people building a better world for him. That the people who did this had fear and anger in their hearts, and we need to show them a better way,” she stated.
