*Paramount+ has officially announced a second season of the SHOWTIME original series “Dexter: Resurrection,” confirming that the writers’ room for the new installment is now open. The renewal extends the story of one of television’s most enduring antiheroes, played by Michael C. Hall.
Led by Emmy-nominated showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips, the series stars SAG and Golden Globe winner Michael C. Hall in the role of Dexter Morgan. All episodes from the first season are available to stream now for Paramount+ Premium plan subscribers.
The debut season of “Dexter: Resurrection” continued the story from “Dexter: New Blood,” reuniting Dexter Morgan and his son Harrison (Jack Alcott) as they confronted their inner darkness amid the bustle of the city that never sleeps. Produced by Paramount Television Studios and Counterpart Studios, the first season also counted Hall, Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, and Marcos Siega among its executive producers.
Reflecting on returning to the role, Hall told EUR exclusively, “There was always misgivings, you know, it always feels like a dice roll. But I felt like it was worth exploring the idea that Dexter could find himself on the other side of that seeming end and give him a second chance at life.”
Hall was particularly intrigued by the series’ opening scenes, which placed Dexter in a surreal space between life and death. “When I read the first script, I was so excited that the writers had him in that space between life and death, having these fever dreams populated by the Trinity Killer and Miguel Prado, James Dokes,” he shared. “I mean, being able to play scenes with those guys, see those actors again, and have the story of this show and the character emerge out of that soil… it’s such a rich mythology that exists for the show at this point and for the character.”
He added that the sequence revealed a new layer to Dexter’s psyche: “It revealed so much about just how populated his internal landscape is. I thought it was a great way to start.”

Asked what keeps him connected to the character after all these years, Hall replied, “Well, you know, it’s a good gig, and you got to work. But there’s something about Dexter. I hear people talk about how they name their cats Dexter. I think that’s appropriate because he’s got at least nine lives.”
In “Dexter: Resurrection,” Hall said the character faces his history in a new way. “I think this season is exciting because he’s kind of able to put that past down. He doesn’t forget it, but he’s not beating himself up over it or doing penance anymore.”
Hall also expressed appreciation for the loyal fan base that has sustained the franchise for nearly two decades. “People like the show and the character for different reasons, but I’m just grateful they do, because if they didn’t, we’d just be, well, we wouldn’t be talking,” he said.
“I’m grateful that the show from the beginning struck a chord and hit a bullseye that invited people to identify with this character, and the fact that they still are is something we’re really, on the inside, grateful for,” he added.
With Phillips returning as showrunner and Hall leading the cast once again, “Dexter: Resurrection” is set to continue its evolution—keeping both its mythology and its audience alive for another chilling chapter.
