*Ocean Spray is looking into multiple reports that some of its cranberry sauce cans contained water instead of sauce during Thanksgiving.
The company told NBC News, “We’re aware of a few reports about cans containing water instead of cranberry sauce, and we’re looking into how this may have happened.”
The issue gained attention after a TikTok video went viral, in which someone opened three cans of Ocean Spray cranberry sauce on camera, one of them revealing nothing but water. A similar incident appeared in a Facebook post, showing another can containing only water. The clip was captioned, “This was my ocean spray cranberry sauce yesterday… 4 cans…who else had this happen?”

In a post on X, another person asked the company, “@OceanSprayInc why !!! Did I buy 8 cans of water!!!??? With a cranberry sauce label on it ? It’s not thanksgiving without a TURKEY AND CRANBERRY SAUCE !!!!”
Many commenters questioned whether the videos were hoaxes or the result of using artificial intelligence.
Ocean Spray responded to the viral videos by emphasizing the importance of quality for all customers. “Millions of families enjoyed their cranberry sauce this holiday season, but even one can of sauce not meeting expectations matters to us,” the company said. “We’ve reached out to the folks who shared these videos to learn more and make it right.”
Ocean Spray has not revealed what caused the problem or how many cans are affected. The company is asking anyone who opened a can containing only water to contact them directly for assistance.
