*Rapper Nicki Minaj spoke out about the persecution of Christians in Nigeria during a United Nations panel organized by the U.S., emphasizing the urgent need to address what she called “the deadly threat.”
The event, held Tuesday (Nov. 18), included U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz and faith leaders, and followed Minaj’s recent response to President Donald Trump’s social media post on Nigeria. “No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion,” Minaj said.
She added that her advocacy isn’t about creating division, but about uniting people and protecting religious freedom. “Nigeria is a beautiful nation with deep faith traditions,” she noted, expressing hope to visit the country in the future.

The artist pledged to continue standing against religious persecution globally. “Sadly, this problem is not only a growing problem in Nigeria, but also in so many other countries around the world,” Minaj said, underscoring the widespread nature of faith-based violence.
According to Newsweek, Minaj is set to collaborate with the Trump administration on strategies to safeguard Christians in Nigeria. Ambassador Waltz confirmed the upcoming meeting on X, praising Minaj as “a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice.” The White House also expressed support, calling her a “Super-Based” advocate for raising awareness.
Nicki Minaj previously used her social media platform to highlight religious persecution. In a post on X, she urged global recognition of faith-based violence, saying, “We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other.”
Ambassador, I am so grateful to be entrusted with an opportunity of this magnitude. I do not take it for granted. It means more than you know.

Nigeria, with nearly 240 million residents, is evenly split between Christians and Muslims and has faced persistent violence from extremist groups, including Boko Haram, Fulani militants, and ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province). While some U.S. officials, including Trump, have called for increased attention to the plight of Christians, Nigerian authorities reject claims of targeted genocide.
