*The 2003 trial of Michael Jackson continues to draw public attention, and a new Netflix docuseries is returning to the case from a different angle.
“Michael Jackson: The Verdict,” arriving June 3, revisits the legal battle that once dominated global headlines and still fuels debate today.
Interest in the trial has endured since Jackson was acquitted on multiple child molestation charges, a verdict that did not end public discussion surrounding the accusations or the proceedings themselves. The case became even more scrutinized in the years following his death in 2009.

Per Netflix, the series is structured around firsthand accounts rather than a single narrative voice, drawing from individuals who were directly involved in or present during the proceedings. Jurors, eyewitnesses, media observers, accusers, and defense supporters all contribute perspectives intended to reconstruct the environment inside the courtroom.
A key focus of the production is how the case was experienced publicly despite the absence of cameras in court. That limitation meant audiences outside the courtroom relied heavily on media reporting, commentary, and fragmented updates to understand what was happening as it unfolded.
“It has been 20 years since the trial of Michael Jackson in which he was found not guilty. Yet, to this day, controversy still rages,” the filmmakers, Nick Green and Fiona Stourton, tell Tudum. “No cameras were allowed in court, and so the public’s view of the facts at the time were filtered by commentators and presented piecemeal. It was time to take a forensic look at the trial as a whole.”
They added, “Anyone interested in the Michael Jackson story should feel this documentary gives them a window into what was largely a closed event and a chance to feel closer to what happened.”
