*R&B singer Muni Long revealed Thursday that the president of Atlantic Records asked her to write “soulful” songs for white artists, but she declined.
The 36-year-old singer and songwriter, born Priscilla Renea, hit up her Instagram account to explain that the label boss asked her to pen “soulful songs” for “non melanated artists.”
“And when I said NO one of em gone say ‘You can reach in that Priscilla Renea vault and see what you have in there,’” she wrote on her Instagram account. “Boy do you know what a VAULT is? That’s where you keep the valuables. If you don’t get somewhere and sit down. I wanted to cuss them out so bad ya’ll. ?”
Her fans supported her stance in the comments section. One follower wrote, “I mean, the whole world is still singing, “Twin, where have you been?” So what do they want again?”
Another added, “Yup! Principles and values to the front. Glad you stood on business Miss Long.”

A third commented, “That’s how they replace us.”
Several people noted that these White and Jewish record executives want the “lyrics” and “soul” just not from Black artists. On X/Twitter, one person wrote, “they can’t make good music they always want to use blacks to lift the whites themselves, keep em dry forever off us and our creativity. This the era where they “creatively” extinct and it’s about damn time. Expose them for their talentless nature & culture.”
Another commented, “THANK YOU!!! Stop giving away the sauce! If they can’t do it, there’s a reason they can’t do it. Black folks need to keep all the many things that make them unique.”
Twitter user @_taenottay_ wrote: “Imagine them asking Taylor Swift or whoever writes white pop music to write that kind of music for a black artist….. IT WOULDN’T HAPPEN.”
One user added, “This is how it starts. Label ask you to do some shit and you say no. Slowly start losing the promo effort you used to have. They gonna retaliate in some form.”
As noted by TMZ, Atlantic, whose parent company is Warner Music Group, seems to be focusing on external talent as the company restructures under new leadership from Elliot Grainge after major layoffs in September.
Long is signed to Def Jam, a Universal Music Group label, through a partnership with her own label, Supergiant Records. Some of the songs she has written for non-Black artists include “Promise This” for British singer Cheryl, Selena Gomez’s “Who Says,” Madonna’s “Gang Bang,” “Love So Soft” by Kelly Clarkson, “Timber” by Pitbull and “Imagine” for Ariana Grande.
She has penned songs for numerous chart-topping performers, such as “California King Bed” by Rihanna and “Worth It” by Fifth Harmony.
