*Check Morris Chestnut’s catalog of work on the big and small screen. Chances are you’ll see multiple roles played, ranging from star athletes (“Boyz N the Hood,” “The Best Man” films), aliens (“V”), a member of the Little Rock Nine (“The Ernest Green Story”), a pathologist (“Rosewood”) and a deputy district attorney (“Goliath”).
Yet despite playing doctors and lawmen, respectively, the entertainer is putting those character skills to good use playing the iconic sidekick of Sherlock Holmes in the new CBS series “Watson.” The CBS medical drama, which premiered Jan. 26, stars Chestnut as John H. Watson, a physician and former detective who returns to his medical practice one year after Holmes’ apparent death at the hands of his archenemy Moriarty.
When asked what makes “Watson” stand out among other medical TV shows, the “Two Can Play That Game” fixture noted its attention to ” the rich iconic mythology of Sherlock Holmes” as it mixes solving medical mysteries with solving crimes.
“The one thing I love about this character is it’s an opportunity to draw from the rich iconic mythology of Sherlock Holmes,” Chestnut told HelloBeautiful while labeling his character and fellow medics ‘doctectives.’ Another thing that I feel makes it different when the story opens up Sherlock Holmes is dead – he’s given Watson this clinic to solve medical mysteries. As doctors, we solve these medical mysteries inside the clinic. However, Sherlock Holmes is a huge influence on Watson and the show, so we also go outside of the hospital to gather information as detectives to solve these mysteries. We’re doctors inside and detectives outside. We’re doctectives.”

On social media, fans may notice Chestnut in complete fashion mode with pictures of him displaying his style during his press tour to promote “Watson.” Although it’s easy to hold him responsible, Chestnut puts it all on celebrity stylist J. Bolin for keeping his fashion on point with tailored suits. Bolin is noted for his work with Sarah Jake Roberts as well as R&B icons SWV, Fantasia, and Michelle Williams.
“I love style and I love fashion,” the heartthrob revealed. “Morris stays home so much this is the only time I get to come out and really show how much I do love style and fashion,” the “Nurse Jackie” alum admitted.
“Working with J. Bolin is incredible,” Chestnut added. “He has a very strong style and fashion sense that far surpasses mine, cause I don’t have one compared to him at all. So us working together has been great.”
“Watson” airs Sunday nights on CBS.
