*Loni Love is publicly standing by her longtime friend Sherri Shepherd following the cancellation of Shepherd’s daytime talk show “Sherri.”
The series, which has aired in syndication for four seasons, was officially ended this week, prompting Love to voice her disappointment with how the announcement was handled. Love, who previously cohosted “The Real” with Shepherd, took to social media to express her concerns.
As EW reports, Love criticized production company Debmar-Mercury for issuing a joint statement without Shepherd’s involvement. “Sherri should have been given the courtesy of announcing her show’s end instead of an article announcing it,” Love wrote on X. She added that Shepherd deserved the same opportunity afforded to other hosts, noting, “Just like Kelly [Clarkson] got to announce her show’s end.”
Sherri should have been given the courtesy of announcing her show’s end instead of an article announcing it. (Just like Kelly got to announce her show’s end.) It’s not like The Real, which was a panel show, but this was a solo-hosted show. Or the production company could have at…

She concluded her message by acknowledging the emotional toll such news can carry. “Seeing ‘cancelled’ stamped all over your picture is depressing, especially when the show was having good ratings. Only onward and upward from this,” Love wrote, tagging Shepherd directly.
Debmar-Mercury co-presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus addressed the decision in a statement released Monday. “This decision is driven by the evolving daytime television landscape and does not reflect on the strength of the show, its production — which has found strong creative momentum this season — or the incredibly talented Sherri Shepherd,” they said. The executives added, “We believe in this show and in Sherri and intend to explore alternatives for it on other platforms.”
Production on season four will continue, with the final episodes expected to air in the fall. “Sherri” premiered in September 2022, stepping in after “The Wendy Williams Show” ended amid Wendy Williams’ health struggles. New episodes of “Sherri” are set to remain in syndication through 2026.
Amid the news, Shepherd shared a personal update with fans, revealing she had been diagnosed with COVID-19. In an Instagram post, she said she was “completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of love” following the show’s cancellation.
“You might’ve noticed that yesterday and today I was struggling because I wasn’t feeling up to speed. Well it turns out I have Covid,” she wrote. Shepherd said she plans to return to taping once she recovers and will address the show’s ending in greater detail at a later time.
