As Hot97 reports, the intersection of 109th Street and 5th Avenue will bear the name “Isaac ‘Fatman Scoop’ Freeman III Place,” honoring the Grammy-winning artist’s contributions to music and his community. Known for his electrifying voice, Fatman Scoop left an indelible mark on hip-hop with hits like “Be Faithful” and collaborations on “Lose Control” and “It’s Like That.”
The ceremony will unite family, friends, and local leaders in a vibrant celebration of Scoop’s legacy. Organized by the Freeman Family, NYC Council Member Dr. Yusef Salaam, and the Forever Fatman Scoop Foundation, the event underscores the artist’s deep ties to Harlem.
“Scoop has always represented Harlem with pride,” said his brother, Kendell “Sav” Freeman.
“This co-naming is a tribute not just to his artistry, but to his ongoing commitment to uplifting the community that raised him,” he added.

Fatman Scoop’s booming vocals and infectious energy made him a global sensation, with his 1999 single “Be Faithful” topping the UK Singles Chart in 2003. His guest appearances on Missy Elliott’s “Lose Control” and Mariah Carey’s “It’s Like That” in 2005 further cemented his influence. Beyond music, Scoop’s dedication to Harlem’s cultural and communal spirit resonated deeply, making this tribute a fitting honor.
Scoop passed away on August 31, 2024, at age 56 after collapsing during a performance in Hamden, Connecticut. Despite immediate CPR and hospital care, he succumbed to natural causes linked to hypertensive heart disease and atherosclerosis.
The upcoming street-naming ceremony will serve as a heartfelt moment for Harlem to celebrate a beloved figure whose voice and spirit continue to inspire.
