*Comedian Eddie Griffin, known for his role in the sitcom “Malcolm & Eddie,” has stirred controversy with comments about the death of his co-star Malcolm-Jamal Warner.
The two actors starred together in the comedy series from 1996 to 2000. According to LipstickAlley, following Warner’s passing, Griffin initially shared a touching tribute on Instagram, writing, “My Heart is heavy today… For what the world lost was a Father a Son a Poet a Musician a Actor a Teacher a Writer a Director a Friend a Warrior that I had the pleasure of going to war with against the Hollywood machine and sometimes with each other because that’s what Brothers do but the Love was and is always there. You’ve taught me so much and I thank you. Rest Well My Big little Brother.”
However, Griffin’s tone shifted during a recent stand-up performance, where he questioned the circumstances of Warner’s death. “I don’t believe that man drowned. I don’t. It’s too suspicious, there were too many different stories,” he told the audience, hinting at conspiracy theories surrounding the tragedy. His remarks, which referenced conflicting reports, quickly drew attention on social media.
Fans expressed mixed reactions to Griffin’s comments. One wrote, “To have an opinion is one thing. To use him as material on your standup act is the epitome of tasteless.” Another criticized, “Very disrespectful for him to do this.”
Some, however, shared Griffin’s skepticism, with one stating, “I mean they did put out about 10 stories in 2 days instead of letting him RIP.”

As we reported earlier, Jamal Warner passed away on July 20 while vacationing with his family in Costa Rica. Elberth Leon, Chief of the Tourist Police in the Atlanta Region, told Us Weekly, “They were bathing together and were caught by a rip current. Obviously, as a father, he fought for his daughter, but the current in that area is very strong, and they couldn’t accomplish the objective.”
Leon, present at the scene, stated, “I responded to the incident and I know what I saw,” adding that Warner’s daughter received on-site Red Cross treatment and required no further care.
Conversely, Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) reported Warner was playing with his daughter on the shoreline before leaving her on land and entering the water with a friend.
“It was at that moment that the current pulled them in; the friend managed to get out, but unfortunately, Mr. Warner did not,” the OIJ noted.
Beachgoers retrieved Warner, and Red Cross responders performed CPR for 20 minutes, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. A second individual who attempted a rescue was hospitalized in critical condition but has since been discharged.
An autopsy conducted on July 22 confirmed Warner died from accidental asphyxiation due to submersion.
