*Sean “Diddy” Combs is taking steps to address personal struggles while detained in federal custody.
Sources confirm he’s enrolled in the STOP Program, a federal initiative designed to curb sexual assault and domestic violence, TMZ reports. Additionally, he’s participating in the Dr. Harry K. Wexler drug abuse program, a commitment he began before his arrest last year. Insiders describe these efforts as Diddy’s pursuit of personal growth and redemption.
The music mogul’s actions follow a high-profile trial that concluded earlier this month in Manhattan. After six weeks of intense testimony, a jury convicted Combs on one count of transportation to engage in prostitution but acquitted him on graver charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. “Cassie” Ventura and another witness, “Jane,” testified about alleged abuse and manipulation, painting a troubling picture of Combs’ relationships.
With sentencing set for October 3, under Judge Arun Subramanian, Combs faces up to 20 years in prison for the two prostitution-related counts. Prosecutors have suggested a four-year sentence, though an appeal is anticipated. Sources note that Diddy’s participation in rehabilitation programs may reflect a strategic move to demonstrate remorse to the court.
The trial, which began May 5, spotlighted allegations of coercion and drug-fueled misconduct spanning decades. Despite a deadlock on the racketeering charge due to “unpersuadable opinions on both sides,” the jury’s split verdict allowed Combs to avoid life imprisonment. His attorney shared that fellow inmates cheered his return to jail after the acquittal on major charges.
Combs, who was arrested in September 2024, has maintained his innocence, denying all allegations of abuse, trafficking, and non-consensual activity.
As AllHipHop reports, opting not to have Combs testify during his trial was considered a pivotal moment. Robert Shapiro, renowned for securing O.J. Simpson’s 1995 acquittal, commended the defense’s approach. “The defense team did a terrific job on a case the U.S. Attorney overcharged. An acquittal in Federal Court is highly unusual. Congratulations to Mark and Tenny for building an incredible group of talented lawyers,” Shapiro told Fox News.
Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz also commended the legal team, headed by Teny Geragos and Marc Agnifilo, drawing parallels to the O.J. Simpson trial. “Ultimately, the smart decision was not putting OJ on the witness stand,” Dershowitz said.
“The smart decision here was not putting Combs on the witness stand. The difference is we want a complete victory. They got a partial victory, but an almost complete victory, so I commend them for excellent work,” Dershowitz added.
Combs’ focus on therapy underscores his attempt to confront issues of substance abuse and violence. Whether driven by genuine intent or sentencing considerations, these steps mark a critical juncture as he awaits his fate.
